Abstract
The study tackled the phenomenon of river islands in the Al-Kazir river, along the Nedoush valley to the Upper Zab river, which is part of the administrative borders of Mosul and Erbil governorates in northern Iraq. It addresses the main natural and human factors that facilitate the formation of the river islands, including the impact of geological factors and climate, the slope of the stream, and meanders, in addition to delineating the direct fundamental role of the river load on the islands’ formation. It also shows the impact of human factors such as agriculture, grazing, and most importantly, quarries. Then shows the difference in the islands’ numbers and sizes along the study area.
