Abstract
A rigorous and simple method is described for analyzing guided modes of metallic electromagnetic crystal waveguides consisting of conductive circular cylinders. The mode propagation constants and the mode field profiles can be accurately obtained by a simpler matrix calculus, using T-matrix of an isolated circular cylinder, the one-dimensional lattice sums technique, and generalized reflection matrices. Fast convergence, low computer cost, and high calculating precision are the main advantages of this method. Numerical examples of the dispersion characteristics and field distributions are presented for lowest E- and H-polarized modes of several metallic electromagnetic crystal waveguides and coupled two-parallel electromagnetic crystal waveguides of conductive circular cylinders in a background free space. The existence of H-polarized modes in metallic electromagnetic crystal waveguides has been verified.
