Abstract

The present study reports Rietveld refinement results, crystal structure, UV–Vis spectroscopy analysis of undoped and Sn4+-doped MgTiO3 solid solutions synthesized using MgO and Mg(OH)2. XRD and Rietveld refinements suggest that the materials synthesized utilizing Mg(OH)2 as starting material were single-phase, whereas, the materials synthesized utilizing MgO as starting material contained extra peaks of MgTi2O5. It was further revealed that Sn4+ substitution increased the unit cell volume of MgTiO3. UV–Vis spectroscopy revealed that the materials synthesized using MgO exhibited lower optical bandgap values than Mg(OH)2-based materials. Furthermore, the prepared specimens' optical bandgap values reduced with Sn4+ substitution.
