Abstract

RICHARD GREENING HEWLETr was born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1923. He attended Dartmouth College as a history major from 1941 to February 1943, when he entered the U.S. Army Air Force. After attending the Air Force Pre-Meteorology school at Bowdoin College, the Electronics Training Center at Harvard University, and the service schools at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, and Chanute Field, Illinois, Hewlett served in the China-Burma-India Theater as a rawin (radio winds aloft)-radiosonde operator.
