Abstract

Riccia anatolica sp. nov. is described and illustrated as a new species from Tarsus-Mersin in the southern part of Turkey. The new species is morphologically similar to some common Turkish (R. nigrella and R. trabutiana) and Middle Eastern (R. okahandjana and R. congoana) Riccia species. It can be distinguished from two Riccia species with shiny black scales that occur in Turkey—R. nigrella and R. trabutiana- by the two layered epidermis, plant size, spores and thallus colour.
