Abstract
Rhinophyma is a rare lesion and the fibrous variant is much more unusual than the florid type. Sometimes the excised material is not subjected to histological examination. The present study is the first, to the best of our knowledge, with a complete immunohistochemical evaluation of rhinophyma's fibrous variant. The results show that rhinophyma is a complex hyperplastic lesion involving stromal cells and capillaries as well as epithelial cells. The remote risk of malignant change in this condition is reason enough to give cases of rhinophyma some priority for treatment, and a thorough histological assessment of all excised tissue is mandatory.
