Abstract

Abstract This entry describes the connections between rhetorical communication and criticism and intercultural communication. The opportunity for intercultural considerations in rhetorical studies came with the turn away from neo‐Aristotelian models of persuasion. Methodological considerations and critical approaches for intercultural rhetorical criticism are described. Intercultural rhetoric is described from the following research areas: rhetorical criticism, Chinese rhetorical studies, ethnography of communication, whiteness studies, and vernacular rhetoric.
