Abstract

1. We have derived the rheological equations of state for dilute suspensions of rigid dumbbells having spheres at the ends, allowing for the moment of inertia of the suspended particles and the influence of the rotational Brownian motion and an electric field on their orientation. 2. The use of these rheological equations of state for studying the rheological behavior of dilute suspensions of rigid dumbbells without allowing for the moment of inertia of the suspended particles and the influence of an electric field on their orientation has shown that such media behave as non-Newtonian liquids, exhibiting the Weissenberg effect and a dependence of the viscosity on the velocity gradient.
