Abstract
Synopsis New Re–Os molybdenite geochronology yields the absolute timing (414.6 ± 2.1 and 414.7 ± 2.1 Ma) of Skarn-type mineralization associated with the Cruachan Granite of the Etive Complex at Coire Buidhe, Glencoe, Scotland. The Re–Os dates agree with recent U–Pb zircon geochronology (414.9 ± 0.7 Ma; Neilson et al . 2009 ) for the host pluton indicating that the mineralization is genetically related to the Cruachan Granite and that the Re–Os dates provide a minimum emplacement timing for the granite. Combined, the new Re–Os and U–Pb dates demonstrate that the crystallization of the Gruachan Granite occurred c . 10 Ma earlier than previously thought.
