Abstract
The allylic alcohols undergo disproportionation in the presence of a catalytic amount of a rhenium complex, such as ReBr(CO)5, to form the corresponding alkenes and α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds. When allylic alcohols were treated with a secondary alcohol in the presence of the rhenium catalyst, selective reduction of the allylic alcohols proceeded to form the alkenes.
