Abstract

Rhenium and osmium abundances have been determined in two australites, two javaites, one philippinite, two indochinites, two moldavites and one bediasite by a neutron activation technique. Rhenium abundances range from 0.14 × 10 −10 to 1.23 × 10 −10 g/g and osmium abundances from 2.4 × 10 −10 to 13.8 × 10 −10 g/g. Measurements of rhenium and osmium abundances in terrestrial acid igneous and sedimentary rocks suggest that either rock types could be suitable parent materials for tektites.
