Abstract

AbstractTechnology has been everywhere, it’s all around us, and it’s become part of us. By harmonizing functionality and the joy generated by fashion, smart wearable and IT (Information Technology)-based garments may theoretically have a lot of impact in the coming generations. In order to reinvent innovations that can predict needs and expectations, smart clothing seeks a balance between fashion, innovation, interaction, user interface, cybersecurity, design, and science. Today, the integration of textiles and electronics makes it possible to incorporate sensors seamlessly and massively into textiles and to create conductive yarn. A new age for retail is promised by the ability of smart fabrics, which can interact with smartphones to process biometric information such as heart rate, temperature, breathing, tension, motion, acceleration, or even hormone levels. This chapter discusses the key criteria for the production of smart IoT-enabled garments and illustrates the possible effect of smart clothing on business models in the medium term. In particular, a global of IoT architecture is suggested, the key types and components of smart IoT wearables and clothing are presented, their main criteria are evaluated, and some of the new smart clothing apps are discussed.KeywordsIoTSmart citySmart homeHealthcareSmart technology
