Abstract

The spectrum of lanthanum was photographed in the wavelength region 80–1220 Å using a triggered spark light source. The spectrographs used were a 3-m normal incidence and a 10.7-m grazing incidence. The 5s2 5p2–[5s5p3 + 5s2 5p(5d + 6s)] transition array of La VIII has been reinvestigated. Two levels of 5p5d have been revised and four new levels of 5p6s configuration have been added. Configuration interaction and the least squares fitted parametric calculations support the analysis. Seventy-one spectral lines have now been classified in this spectrum in the 280–1145 Å wavelength region with an accuracy of ± 0.005 Å.
