Abstract
Future research might consider elucidating the most important factors influencing hospitality students’ career decisions. A career decision is a choice made by an individual based on one’s interests, abilities, and values. An individual needs to make the right decision in order to have a good career. This also applies to higher-learning students, as they need to make a career decision upon graduation. Therefore, this study aims to identify and review the factors influencing career decisions and their impacts among hospitality students. A systematic review was conducted, and secondary data were collected from various sources, analysed, and interpreted in order to gain a better understanding of the topic. The researchers focused on three factors that were mostly mentioned in previous studies: nature of work, self-efficacy, and social status. It was found that the nature of work has both a positive and negative impact on students’ career decisions. Meanwhile, self-efficacy had a negative impact on students’ career decisions because it mainly depended on the student’s confidence in their capabilities. Lastly, social status also contributed negatively, which focused mainly on the community's perceptions of careers in the hospitality industry. Future research might consider elucidating the most important factors influencing hospitality students’ career decisions.
