Abstract

Barger, E. H. and L. E. Card, Diseases and Parasites of Poultry. Philadelphia: Lea and Febiger, 1935. 354 pages, 73 figures. Price $3.75.It is most opportune that, at a period when diseases are presenting to the poultryman a greater obstacle to profitable enterprise than has hitherto been known in the history of the poultry business, there should appear a well-written book which reviews concisely our present knowledge of poultry diseases, and, by so doing, points out those problems in the control of poultry diseases which are now most urgently in need of solution.Dr. Barger is a pathologist in the Illinois State Department of Agriculture and Dr. Card is Professor of Poultry Husbandry at the University of Illinois. In writing their book, these authors had in mind its usefulness for three classes of readers, viz., (1) flock owners, (2) practising veterinarians, and (3) students of agriculture and veterinary medicine. .
