Abstract

The use of technology and the population has increased the per capita power consumption of the world. Most of the energy-generating in the current situation was from thermal power plants. Thus, leading to adverse effects of fossil fuel use on the world's climate. Residential and commercial buildings utilize about 60% of the world's power. So, to solve the above problems, society has to take two approaches, one is to increase the efficiency of the power consumption of the buildings, and another approach, is to make them energyreliable in terms of production. Therefore, technology such as the Internet of Things (IoT) can help build an energy management system (BEMS), make power consumption at the optimum level and increase the consumer comfort index. Smart grids also help attain the efficiency and integration of different power sources and consumption of smart buildings. In terms of production, green energy sources like solar, biogas and wind can become good alternate power sources for the buildings. The review also shows how IoT technologies are increasing the efficiency of smart buildings and the future challenges in this domain.
