Abstract

This paper first introduces the development of arc suppression coil with automatic tracking and compensation (ATCASC) in China. Then the authors give different classification of the ATCASC, and describe in detail the configuration, the main advantages and disadvantages of each ATCASC. Finally the common problem that the current ATCASC cannot compensate for the active component and harmonic component of the single-phase-to-ground fault current is pointed out. Based on this, the authors indicate that the “zero residual current ASC” will be a new research direction of the neutral point grounding methods and the ATCASC in China.
