Abstract

IPv4 address exhaustion causes the transition to IPv6 is inevitable. However, this transition process requires a long period of time to be implemented. It requires a gradual process because of the domination of IPv4 protocol and due to high utilization and high demand among the Internet users. Campus network is main communication medium for universities. It is not only used by students and university staff but also used by the research community to conduct their research. This paper reviews the implementation of IPv6 transition mechanisms. The survey is based on previous research with focus on testing the implementation of IPv6 transition mechanisms on the campus network. IPv6 transition mechanisms like dual stack, tunneling and translation are briefly discussed. The main objective of the review is to investigate the research of implementation IPv6 transition mechanisms on the campus network from previous researcher and how it is being tested to determine the performance of the transition mechanism when implementation is undertaken. The scope of the review focuses on the implementation of IPv6 transition mechanisms on campus network and testing the implementation of IPv6 transition mechanisms through simulation and test bed.
