Abstract

The ESR centers induced by X-ray irradiation of either vitreous or crystalline borates and halogenoborates are reviewed and compared. There are two types of centers: one is associated with the covalent boron-oxygen network and the second with ions located within this network. Strong similarities between both glasses and crystallized compounds are found for the first type of paramagnetic centers. On the contrary, the centers accomodated in the covalent network depend on the specific material considered.
