Abstract

Recently the use of Ionic liquids (ILs) in electrochemical investigations have greatly increased due to their excellent properties such as high viscosity, high thermal stability, wide liquid range, tunable solvent properties, good ionic conductivity and wide electrochemical potential window. In the present review the concept of ILs is defined, along with their classification. This review also focused on some of the properties of ILs which are relevant to electrochemical study of compounds and presents recent voltammetric studies on various ionic liquid modified electrodes.
