Abstract

A close reading of both Library 2020 edited by Joseph Janes and Achieving Transformational Change in Academic Libraries by Stephen Mossop underscores the complexity of the forces converging on the world of libraries and information, and suggests it would be folly for any management strategy to fail to account for it. The approaches and content of the two books are compared and analyzed, and considered in terms of their ability to aid in understanding and planning for transformative change in libraries. Literature and theory from the discipline of city planning is suggested as a means of bridging the themes and arguments of both books.
