Abstract
Absorption of Bi 12GeO 20 and Bi 12SiO 20 single crystals doped with Mn and Cr were investigated before and after illumination with visible light. Pronounced photochromic effects were found. The effects are explained in terms of light induced charge transfer Mn 4+→Mn 5+ and Cr 3+→Cr 2+.
