Abstract
Ion-pair partition chromatography is applied to the separation of the biogenic catecholamines and ther a-methl homologues. A useful selectivity has been obtained. using an adduct-forming organic stationary phase (tributylphosphate). The retention of the compounds can be regulated easily by means of the concentration of the counter-ion (the perchlorate ion) in the mobile phase. The selectivity for separation of amines from amino acids can be influenced by changing the pH of the acqueous phase. The phase system shows a good long-term stability and reproducticibility with respect to the capacity ratios and the efficiency.
