Abstract
Over the past three decades, research in logistics has moved towards one of the biggest challenges for operations management, which is the waste stream arising in all phases of physical flows. The overall reverse logistics model covers diverse waste streams and the environmental problems associated with them. The chapter presents an analysis of reverse logistics (RL), an emerging research field aimed at solving environmental problems within the framework of supply-chain management. The bibliometric methodology has been used in research in various areas of logistics and SCM, including the foundation of logistics and the supply-chain management, urban logistics, reverse logistics and closed-loop supply-chain management, reverse logistics and corporate social responsibility, and supply-chain management. Co-citation analysis clearly shows that the development of the reverse-logistics theory included fundamental axiological problems and their conceptualization, which created a theoretical framework for the development of further research in the following decades.
