Abstract

Big data is a revolutionary technology over the most popularly used relational database platform. As the web based data is growing rapidly the limitations of relational database is well understood. Big data technologies are implemented in terms of numbers of NoSQL databases. As these NoSQL databases store huge amount of transactional data; suitable analytical processing would help in decision making or knowledge generation. Data warehouse is the most widely tool for analytical processing. However the survey works reveal limited research has been done to generate data warehouse in Big data environment. In this research work we study MongoDB and depict the different challenges associate towards implementation of data warehouse in MongoDB. MongoDB is chosen as it is very popular in Big data but difficult to implement due to its unstructured nature. This paper describes the major operations, schema structure and modelling elements of data warehouse. Thereafter step by step we identify where new methodologies are to be innovated in order to construct a fully operational MongoDB based data warehouse.
