Abstract
SummaryCalcium retention was studied in eight patients with RA and generalized osteopenia, three of whom were treated with small doses of corticosteroids, seven with salicylates, and one with indomethacine. The retention of orally administered 47Ca + 135 mg. 40Ca after an overnight fast was measured in a whole body counter after one and two weeks. The whole group of patients showed a lowered value of 47Ca retention. This finding may be due to a decreased intestinal absorption of calcium, although other causative factors cannot be excluded.
