Abstract

Summary: This retrospective study, based on a chart and radiographic review of blacks treated for slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE), showed a 93.2% incidence of excellent or good results, and an incidence of only 2.3% of major complications with poor results. Blacks can generally be expected to have a good result after treatment of SCFE in both males and females with a low incidence of avascular necrosis (AVN) or acute cartilage necrosis (ACN).
