Abstract

The X-ray observatory ASCA (Astro-D) was launched in Feb 1993 and is now providing excellent spectroimaging observations of objects from virtually every astronomical class. This paper reviews the scientific capabilities of ASCA using some of the first results from X-ray binaries, cataclysmic variables and stars.
