Abstract
In reply to Geoffrey Brandon (letters November 1), about 18 years ago, when completing my training, I was ‘specialed’ to look after a 16-year-old girl who was very ill with a high temperature, diarrhoea and vomiting. The doctors had been unable to find an infection. Eventually her boyfriend told them she had taken eight paracetamol with a fizzy drink, having been told it would give the same effect as being drunk. Her condition deteriorated and she died.
