Abstract

This paper presents some of the ideas developed by a research project which studied current management and development of coastal water sports in South Wales, UK. Firstly the importance of marine recreation as a sea use is explained, concentrating on water sports as a special case. The management system for water sports in the UK and water sports and sea use planning objectives are explained. Finally the paper concludes with a brief outline of the development of coastal zone management within local authorities (the lowest level of statutory government).
