Abstract

We all want to be respectable—but is its price of “responsibility” higher than many broadcasters want to pay? Harold Essex, President of the Triangle Broadcasting Corporation of Winston‐Salem, North Carolina (licensee of WSJS‐TV) obviously doesn't think so, and forcefully presents his views in such a way as to stimulate consideration, discussion, and, hopefully, agreement. The following article is revised from a talk presented last March before Region II of the National Association of Educational Broadcasters in Williamsburg, Virginia.
