Abstract

The 7F 0→ 5D 0 transition in EuCl 36H 2O is exceedingly narrow ∼0.5 GHz and exhibits partially resolved hyperfine splittings. Further, using EuCl 36H 2O crystals with different 151Eu : 153Eu isotope mixtures there is evidence of an isotope shift. Optical-RF double-resonance and burn-and-scan laser experiments employing the hole-burning behaviour of this transition support the analysis of the optical spectra.
