Abstract
24 kindergarten and second grade children, equally represented by sex and by grade, were randomly selected and presented with a free-play, resistance to temptation (RTT) situation. They were admonished not to play with a group of attractive toys but were encouraged to play with a group of dull, uninteresting, broken toys while left alone in the play-room. The measure of RTT was the length of time the children refrained from touching the tabooed toys. Girls showed significantly more RTT ( p < .02). There was no difference between grade levels, and sex differences were not dependent upon grade level.
