Abstract
The complexity of healthcare implies that hospital lean logistics demands resilience and has high stakes due to patient safety risks. Thus, three variables of lean logistics (route, routine, and rhythm – 3 Rs) should be complemented by two others (resilience and risk – 2Rs) that account for complexity. This paper presents a framework for assessing these 5Rs of internal lean logistics. It was conceived through a systematic review and interviews with experts. The framework use is illustrated through the study of the logistics of medications. It contributes to patient-centred internal lean logistics, indicating the key issues and how they relate to each other.
