Abstract

Abstract Adult cat fleas were exposed to 130 cm2 medium shag nylon carpet discs which were treated with varying concentrations of Baygon 70WP mixed with water. Each carpet disc was treated by use of a pressurized hand sprayer which was calibrated to deliver 4.5 ml/s at 55 psi. Carpet discs sprayed with water only served as controls. Carpet discs were stored at ca. 25°C in ca. 4-liter opened wide mouth glass jars. At weekly intervals, 20 adult cat fleas were released into the jars. After 24 h, carpet discs were brushed vigorously for ca. 1 min with a hair brush in a white 5-gal plastic bucket. Dislodged dead and live fleas were recorded. Each dose was replicated 3 times. Carpet discs were used only once for each test interval. Treatment mortality was corrected by Abbott’s formula.
