Abstract
The Ninian field is located in Blocks 3/3 and 3/8a in the UK North Sea, 100 miles off the Shetland Isles, Scotland. The field is a giant oil field with an estimated stock-tank oil originally in place of 2,588 MMSTB and an estimated ultimate oil recovery of approximately 1,120 to 1,255 MMSTB.The field produces from the prolific Brent sandstone group of middle Jurassic age. The reservoir was originally overpressured, with an initial reservoir pressure of 6,500 psig at 9,750 ft true vertical depth subsea and a reservoir temperature of 215 F. This paper discusses the reservoir-management philosophy used by Chevron UK as operator of the field.
