In brief ▪Breastfeeding for at least 6 months may reduce the number of childhood leukaemias by almost a fifth ▪ Statins and fibrates may reduce the incidence of stroke in older people by about 30% ▪ Proton pump inhibitors may be associated with an increased risk of myocardial infarction and cardiovascular mortality ▪ Te ban on smoking in public places probably reduced hospitalizations for respiratory tract infections in children by about 11 000 a year ▪ A recently launched combination for type 2 diabetes reduces weight, HbA1c and risk of hypoglycaemia
