Abstract
A study based on a sample of 152, 625 patients discharged during January through June, 1968, from small, medium, and large Professional Activity Study hospitals in four PAS defined regions of the United States was done. This Study attempted to investigate possible differences in treatment of Whites and Blacks in hospitals by using fifteen hospital procedures (variables) as comparative arguments of treatment. Two-by-two tables and chi-square test of significance at the 0·05 level were used for the statistical analysis. Hospitals were compared by the following sizes: 1–99 beds, 100–399 beds, 400+ beds. Hospitals were also compared by the following PAS defined regions: East, Midwest, South, and West. Many significant differences in medical treatment were determined. Appropriate tables, descriptive writing and conclusions were made.
