Abstract

Carbon nanotubes increasingly attract a great interest in the field of biomedicine especially in the applications in nervous system due to their unique physicochemical properties. In this review,we focus on recent studies about the applications of carbon nanotubes in neural systems including nerve cell growth scaffolds, neural electrode for monitoring, and drug carriers for therapy. We further summarize the neurotoxicity potential of carbon nanotubes and propose the solutions on how to avoid it.Finally,we also prospect the future applications of carbon nanotubes in the nervous system.
