Abstract

Recently, the incidence rate of preterm birth is increasing and accounts for 5%-15% in all neonates. With the development of neonatal intensive care techniques and the establishment of neonatal intensive care unit, the survival rate of premature infants increased markedly. However, the premature infants brain injury rate has been increasing and become an enormous public health problem. Encephalopathy of prematurity includes various lesions, most notably periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) and periventricular haemorrhage-intra ventricular haemorrhage(PVH-IVH), which could lead to death and neurological disabilities. This review integrates research progress in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment and prevention in encephalopathy of prematurity. Key words: Infant, premature; Brain injuries; Leukomalacia, periventricular; Cerebral hemorrhage
