Abstract

<p indent="0mm">Small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) has become a mainstream refractive surgery because of its outstanding efficacy, safety, and predictability. This surgery involves extracting an entire corneal stroma lenticule to treat hyperopia, presbyopia, keratoconus and ectatic diseases, corneal perforation, and other ocular diseases. However, most studies use fresh lenticules, thereby limiting their promotion and application. Thus, preserving these lenticules is extremely important. This paper reviews the progress made toward the preservation and clinical reuse of SMILE-derived lenticules.
