Abstract
This paper studied the impact of Sasobit on the performance of asphalt and asphalt mixtures. The normal performance tests on asphalt indicate that when the quantity of Sasobit increases, the penetration index (PI) and the softening point increases; but the penetration and the ductility in the low temperature range reduces. The Brookfield viscosity tests on the asphalt indicate that Sasobit can reduce the viscosity of asphalt in the high temperature range and increase its viscosity on the low temperature side. After reducing the mixing and compaction temperatures of asphalt mixtures, their pavement performances were contrasted and evaluated. It can be concluded that all of the pavement performances of styrene butadiene styrene (SBS) modified asphalt mixture are the best correspondingly and the high temperature stability of warm mix asphalt with Sasobit is superior to that of hot mix asphalt (HMA); the capacity of crack resistance in the low temperature range and the moisture sensitivity and capacity of fatigue resistance are nearly the same as those of HMA. The research shows that warm asphalt and warm mix asphalt with Sasobit have better performance value. The development foreground and potential is broad.
