Abstract
In this paper, a great large of point cloud data obtained by a laser scanner is simplified firstly, then geometry analysis method is applied in order to fit the trunk diameter, lastly, utilizing timber volume formula, the standing tree volume can be calculated and furthermore, forest inventory also can be computed easily. As shown by the test, the standing tree volume can be worked out fast and exactly and the error of which is less than 3 percent
