Abstract

Compared with the traditional RS485 bus, Control Area Network (CAN) bus has the advantages of high reliability and flexible networking. In order to realize the functions of remote meter reading, remote pulling and closing, and power cut reporting, this paper designs a CAN bus based communication system for centralized smart metering. Firstly, the structure of CAN bus based centralized smart metering system is presented, and optical fiber is employed for the CAN bus centralized processing in a cell. Secondly, it proposes the scheme of watt-hour meter based on the low-cost microchip C8051F040. The communication interface is designed by using the CAN core on chip, which greatly simplifies the design of peripheral hardware circuits. Finally, based on the data priority, the meter address and the frame identification, the application layer transport protocol of the CAN bus is designed. The communication function test is provided on the C8051F040 development board.
