Abstract

In order to study the flexural performance and ultimate bearing capacity of concrete beams with steel bars plus shape memory alloy (SMA) rod, this paper uses SMA rods and steel bars as the main reinforcement in the tensile area of concrete beams to make steel bars plus SMA rods for concrete beams. Four beams (A, B, C, D) were studied under the condition of 40% damage. After the SMA rods of the concrete beams were electrically heated, they were loaded, comparing stiffness changes and ultimate bearing capacity. The results show that SMA rods can improve the ultimate bearing capacity of reinforced concrete beams, and the configuration of the main reinforcement in the tension zone of C beams (two steel bars and one SMA rod) has the most obvious effect on improving the flexural performance of reinforced concrete beams. After the damage of the concrete beam is treated, the SMA rods in the concrete beam are electrically heated, and the stiffness of the steel bar plus SMA rod concrete beam will increase.
