Abstract
This report on the status of educational research in the United States today is one of the more significant publications on this subject in recent years. Prepared by the Committee on Educational Research of the National Academy of Education, its pertinence to other behavioral sciences and the research carried out within their disciplines makes this book less parochial and more intellectually provocative than most similar efforts. Because of its concern with the confusion in educational research and the importance of such research to educational practice, the Academy, as one of its first actions after its founding in 1965, appointed the Committee on Educational Research to explore the problem. The editors of this volume, Cronbach and Suppes, served as Co-Chairmen of the Committee for the two years of its existence.
