Abstract
Satellite communication is widely used in meteorological forecast. Among the satellite communication technologies, advanced orbiting systems(AOS) recommendation is an excellent one proposed by Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems(CCSDS). In AOS, the error correction coding schemes commonly used are convolutional coding, Turbo coding and RS coding. Convolutional coding and Turbo coding are studied in this paper. The encoding and decoding principle of convolutional code and Turbo code are analyzed. A simulation model of AOS communication system is also established, in which convolutional code and Turbo code are used. Performance of Turbo code and convolution code are compared from three aspects: the bit error rate(BER), frame error rate(FER) and throughput. Experiments show that Turbo code works better than convolutional code from all these three aspects, especially under the condition of low Signal-to-Noise Ratio(SNR).
