Abstract

This chapter presents report on the demographic simulation models that have been developed, emphasizing on fertility simulation. These models have been described in a number of reports that have been issued by the demographic research institute as well as in several conference papers and journal articles. The chapter further presents the plans for research on the labor force, using a combined macro- and micro-approach to separate the factors involved in estimating the volume and structure of the labor force, which corresponds to the population in working ages. It provides a study of how the population sector of a “world dynamic model” might be expressed. Some organizations and individual scientists have tried to develop the global models dealing with the general interrelations on a global level of population, economic structure and development, and social conditions. These approaches have an added interest at the demographic research institute in Gothenburg because it appears that the methods and techniques of demographic simulation models could be used to improve the population sector of a general type of model.
