Abstract
The world is presently in the midst of an energy crisis. However, this crisis can be resolved if significant amounts of time and money are spent on research and development programs. Since natural gas and oil will eventually be used up and gone forever, the world must shift to using other fuels that are in more abundant supply. This will require a tremendous amount of research and development, now and in the years to come. Previous research and development programs have proved to be successful and profitable in various areas of the electrical system. Research and development is an ongoing program at Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company. We are constantly at work trying to solve the problems that confront an electric utility; mainly, striving to give our customers low cost dependable electricity presently and in the future. The problems facing us in the future need to be recognized, and once they are recognized, they can be solved through technological improvements. The improvements will require much financing, and the United States must support new research and development programs strongly in order to overcome our energy problems.
