Abstract
Collective self-organised (CSO) housing refers to the process of a collective of individuals that organize, finance, plan and commission their own housing projects. CSO housing can refer both to new construction, and retrofitting /refurbishment processes. The unique feature of CSO housing is the fact that CSO housing projects are undertaken by a group of non-professional clients. In common building practice, even professional clients have difficulties in choosing the (cost) optimal solutions for energy-efficient buildings, even when supported with tools toperform analyses of design alternatives based on total cost of ownership (TCO) calculations. For non-professional clients, this challenge is much more ignificant. In order to help non-professional clients in CSO housing projects, TCO-based decision support tools are needed. This paper investigates in what stages of the CSO process information on TCO could support the decision that need to be made by the group of clients. The functional requirements of two different decision support tools, based on TCO calculations of design alternatives for energy-efficient CSO housing, are established. This paper refers to the on-going EU research project PROFICIENT under the Energy-efficient Building (EeB) programme.
